SpecialItem

Giant equipment, or Heavy equipment, is a rare set of weapons in Patapon and Patapon 2. They look a little bigger than the other weapons and have black and white coloring. These weapons reduce the attack and move speed of the unit by about four seconds, however this is compensated with a big boost of damage, knockback and stagger. Giant equipment is obtained from bosses and battles, but late-game bosses, such as Kacchindonga, tend to drop Giant equipment more frequently.

The Giant Equipment (from patapon 2) are as follows:

Equipment Name Equipment Description Image
Giant Spear "Bullet" This cannonball spear (largest of all) pierces straight through targets and into the earth!
Giant Sword "The Butcher" The diabolically colossal, awe-inspiring sword was forged to obliterate meat and bone.
Giant Bow "Failnaught" This unweildy huge bow provokes fear in the hearts of foes, but lacks mobility.
Giant Halberd "Grizzly" Far too large to wield, this halberd is only fit for charges on horseback.
Morning Star "Giganto" Once Dekapon pulverised an entire mountain in one strike with the iron ball attached to this iron club.
Giant Javelin A humungous javelin that's just as heavy as it looks. It boasts the highest attack power, but can't strike quickly due to its weight.
Great Golem Arm Humungous arm that may have come from a giant statue. It has high attack and stagger properties, but its attack speed is very slow.
Giant Helm "Turtle" A helmet made form the shells of Giant Southern Sea Turtles. It resists some knockback, and boasts a high HP bonus.
Giant Shield "Octagon" This giant magical shield neutralises most damage.
Deep Impact The impact of this horse's stampede is deep indeed.
Great Shoulder Gigas A massive shoulderguard covered in giant spikes. It nullifies a wide array of attacks, and raises attack power significantly.
Garuda A legendary demon bird said to bring misfortune. Bestows divine protection, allowing it to resist special damage.

Trivia[]

  • The Morning Star "Giganto" description says that it allowed Dekapon to pulverize an entire mountain. The Dekapon memory states that Dekapon once pulverized a mountain with his hand, not with a club. It is of course possible that the club only allowed Dekapon to pulverise the mountain somehow, perhaps while he held it in the other hand.
  • There is no Giant equipment for Megapons or Mahopons.
  • The Giant Spear's physical appearance changes between Patapon 1 and 2. The rest of the equipment keeps the same appearance.
  • Though Garuda, the giant bird, is said to be a 'demon bird', the actual demon equipment bird is named 'magic bird Onmoraki.
  • In Patapon 3, only the giant Sword "The Butcher" and the giant Shield "Octagon" are present with their names intact, but the descriptions have changed. The Giant Bow 'Failnaught' appears as the Stagger Longbow.
  • The Dekapon's Heavy Shoulder is outclassed by the Dragon Shoulder, as the Dragon grants the same effects as the Heavy without reducing speed. The game will even equip a Dragon Shoulder over a Heavy when optimizing a squad. This is strange as Heavy armor is rarer than Dragon armor. However, the Dekapons also get Great Shoulder Gigas.
