- For the Rarepons featured in the first Patapon, see Patapon 1 Rarepons.
Rarepons are unique Patapons with different abilities and traits created by Mater, The Tree of Life through the Evolution Map. Unlike Patapon 1, a unit's Rarepon type can be changed freely in the Headquarters once that Rarepon has been unlocked. This allows for greater army customization and unit flexibility. In addition, each Rarepon type can be upgraded with additional materials and Ka-ching to improve their abilities. At level 5 and 10, a Rarepon's appearance will change. Rarepons can be improved up to level 10; maximizing their potential in that form.
Initially, each Rarepon type requires two types of materials to upgrade. At level 3 and 6, an new material is added, totaling to four different types of materials. The amounts of each material will also increase with each improvement. The type of material depends on the unit's class:
Class | Material 1 (Level 1+) | Material 2 (Level 1+) | Material 3 (Level 3+) | Material 4 (Level 6+) |
---|---|---|---|---|
Yaripon | Minerals | Fangs | Meats | Bones |
Tatepon | Meats | Minerals | Fangs | Hides |
Yumipon | Fangs | Bones | Minerals | Wood |
Kibapon | Bones | Wood | Hides | Minerals |
Dekapon | Hides | Meats | Bones | Fangs |
Megapon | Wood | Vegetables | Juices | Alloys |
Toripon | Vegetables | Alloys | Wood | Seeds |
Robopon | Alloys | Hides | Vegetables | Juices |
Mahopon | Seeds | Juices | Alloys | Vegetables |
When importing save data from Patapon 1, the Rarepon type of the original unit will be available to unlock immediately without having to follow the Evolution Map. For example, having one Tikulee Yaripon in Patapon 1 will allow one Yaripon in Patapon 2 to unlock Chiku without having to unlock Pyopyo and Nyontama.
Normal[]
- "A normal Patapon. He can get a little stronger by leveling up."
Normal is the first and most basic Rarepon, being the first type unlocked at the start of the game. All units will start their Evolution Map at Normal before they can be upgraded to other Rarepon types. They gain slight Ignite, Freeze, and Sleep Resist as they evolve. Normal Patapons are the only Rarepons that can wear helmets, with the except of Dekapon, Megapon, and Mahopon units. These three units, however, instead gain additional HP and resistances, Sleep Ratio, or Critical Ratio, respectively.

As they evolve, they gain slight Critical, Knockback, and Stagger rates. Pyopyos are easy to upgrade and work well against icy weapons and freezing weather.

In addition, they are highly resistant some elemental attacks and status effects, but are highly vulnerable to Fire and Ignite. However, Mogyu are also one of the slowest Rarepons, both in movement and attack speed, and are expensive to upgrade.
